I don’t know if it happened or whether
it happened in the way told by the evangelist—at any rate I was frightened, my
tunic you might say was empty, so much had I lost myself in fear. Three times I denied God. And when the cock crowed I leant against the
wall and cried. ‘Lord we are human,’ I whispered. And then I realized I had been forgiven. The Lord, as He was departing, left with me
